A big, big thank you to Makgeolli Mamas & Papas Korea (MMPK) for the news about a whole slew of spring festivals, events, and exhibitions. Honestly, with all that’s going on, April feels like the new October!
Time: Saturday, April 23 (10 am – 5 pm)
Place: COEX Exhibition & Convention Center (Samseong Station), Hall C
Cost: ₩20,000 for onsite registration
Keonbae: Beyond all the other unique craft beers, delicious wines, and unique liquor, a whole slew of movers and shakers in the sool brewing industry will be present, including Sansoo (H02), Hangook Gayangju Yeongoosu (H07), Jejusaemju (I01), Hwayang (I09), Mi Dam (J15), and the list goes on. This one is coming up quick but, of the three, it will easily be the best and oh so worth your 20Gs.
Time: April 29 – May 15 (11 am – 9 pm)
Place: Goyang One Mount (Juyeop Station)
Keonbae: This festival is gravy on the side for the real event: the International Horticulture Goyang Korea, a flower festival that’s been happening since 1997. Go somewhere different, ogle the flowers, and have a drink in the sun. Be warned: I doubt the makgeolli festival will be happening every day from April 29 – May 15. Best just to try on the weekends. I also have a sinking suspicion that many of the makgeollis available will have aspartame…
Time: May 19 – 20
Place: Seoul Namsangol Hanok Village (Chungmuro Station)
Keonbae: Of the free events, this is the biggest question mark. It’s a good sign that the organizers put traditional Korean liquor first and food second, but I have no idea who will be participating, how good the offerings will be, or even what it will cost. Hopefully, MMPK will fill us in more as the event gets closer.
