2016 Fall Makgeolli Events

The summer temperatures are receding and the leaves are changing color. This can only mean one thing: MAKGEOLLI FESTIVALS! Strangely enough, there has not been too much buzz (or even information) about certain events listed here so if you see something you’re interested in, be sure to check back regularly for updates.

2016 Fall Makgeolli Events

While many of the fall events make claims to the title of biggest, baddest makgeolli festival in Korea, Jarasum is without a doubt the heavyweight champ. And, I’m sad to say that Takjoo Journals has never been present due to the fact that the festival takes place on Jarasum Island in Gyeonggi-do, which is more or less an hour and a half by car, bus, or ITX train. Hopefully, this won’t present a problem this year.

Some of the breweries that you can expect to see are Sejong Brewing, Yong Doo San, Geumjeong Sanseong, Pocheon Ildong, Kooksoondang, Guam Farm, and Woorisul. I suspect that many more will be present.

2016 Fall Makgeolli Events

For whatever reason the powers that be have decided to schedule the Daehanmingook Makgeolli Festival on the same day as the Jarasum Makgeolli Festival. After the disappointing time I had at last year’s event, this really isn’t a problem but, still, it’d be nice of at least having the option to go to both. Although I’ve posted a link to their website, it looks like there is no more information than the dates, times, and events. Otherwise, no updated event information exists.

When: October 8-9

Hours: 10 am – 6 pm

Where: Gyeonggi-do, Goyang, Ilsan Lake Park, Jeongbalsan Station

Cost: Free

2016 Fall Makgeolli Events

The first time I went to Food Week Korea, a ton of breweries were present. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case last year. And, it being a food-centric convention, that seems only fair. Of the establishments below that will be in attendance, I would be on the lookout for K-Sool, Bluegreenkorea, and Orientas International. While this last one is not sool, Thai sato is a Thai liquor that many claim share some similarities with Korean brewing methods.

Information on this event is trickling in. Some odd points to note are that the event will be held on a Wednesday and that the location has moved from KINTEX in Ilsan to LetsRun Park (formerly Seoul Race Park) in Gwacheon. The Gayangju Brewers Contest is actually part of a larger culinary convention called the Gyeonggi-do Misikdaejeon.

Where: Gyeonggi-do, Gwacheon, LetsRun Park, Luckyville 6F (럭키빌6층)
